Refurbished Alcatel-Lucent WAVESTAR ADM hardware supply

The Alcatel-Lucent Wavestar ADM 16/1 is a compact, high-capacity SDH/PDH add-drop multiplexer designed for deployment across access, regional, and backbone network layers. The platform multiplexes a broad range of plesiochronous and synchronous signals into STM-16 (2.5 Gbps), STM-4 (622 Mbps), or STM-1 (155 Mbps), and can operate as an add-drop multiplexer, terminal multiplexer, or small local cross-connect. Its flexible interface architecture and built-in protection mechanisms have made it a longstanding fixture in carrier SDH transport networks worldwide.

STM-16 add-drop multiplexing with sub-rate grooming

The Wavestar ADM 16/1 provides the ability to add, drop, and flexibly cross-connect 2 Mbit/s traffic directly from the STM-16 level, alongside signals at 34, 45, 140, 155, and 620 Mbit/s. Total add-drop capacity from a single subrack reaches up to 32 x STM-1 or 504 x 2 Mbit/s, with eight tributary slots supporting four STM-1 equivalents per circuit pack. This granular grooming capability allows operators to efficiently aggregate low-rate services onto high-capacity optical bearers without intermediate multiplexing stages.

Higher and lower order cross-connect architecture

The platform’s cross-connect consists of a higher order matrix switching VC-4s with a 64 x 64 capacity, and a lower order matrix for VC-12 and VC-3 grooming. The higher order cross-connect handles VC-4 SNC protection switching, MS-SPRing protection, and MSP protection functions, while the lower order matrix enables fine-grained traffic management down to 2 Mbit/s granularity. The cross-connect circuit pack supports 1+1 equipment protection for carrier-grade resilience.

Ring, linear, and mesh protection topologies

The Wavestar ADM supports MS-SPRing rings of up to 16 nodes with 50 ms switch times, 1+1 MSP line protection for terminal configurations, and SNC/N subnetwork connection protection on a per-VC basis. These protection schemes can be deployed across two-fibre bidirectional rings, point-to-point links, and linear add-drop chains, giving operators flexibility to design resilient network architectures across metro, regional, and backbone applications. The platform also supports integration with Wavestar OLS DWDM systems for wavelength-layer transport.

Alcatel-Lucent WAVESTAR ADM repair services

DTC provides specialist repair and lifecycle support for Alcatel-Lucent Wavestar ADM 16/1 platforms, focused on restoring complex SDH multiplexing hardware to a fully serviceable state rather than offering best-effort fixes. Repairs are driven by detailed platform knowledge and structured fault isolation, covering cross-connect circuit packs, optical line cards, tributary interface modules, and system controllers.

Each repair is completed with defined test and verification processes aligned to Wavestar ADM operating requirements, ensuring repaired units can be reintroduced into live SDH transport networks with confidence. This emphasis on validation, repeatability, and long-term sustainment allows operators to extend the operational life of deployed Wavestar ADM systems while controlling cost and risk.

DTC also provides hands-on technical support and break/fix services for the Alcatel-Lucent Wavestar ADM, helping resolve faults quickly and keep your network operational without reliance on OEM maintenance contracts.

Warranty and risk mitigation – why source outside the OEM?

Warranty, quality, and risk mitigation

DTC supplies fully warrantied platforms and parts across all network layers, supported by defined SLAs and quality-controlled repair services. All recovered equipment is inspected, tested, and audited at platform, part number, serial number, and software revision level. These processes are governed by ISO 9001-certified quality management systems, ensuring consistent performance, traceability, and reduced operational risk.

End-to-end audit trails are maintained from collection through resale, repair, or recycling, with transparent inventory visibility and regular reporting. This ensures customers retain full control, compliance, and confidence in the condition and provenance of every asset.

Why source outside the OEM?

Sourcing through DTC provides a cost-efficient alternative to OEM supply chains while maintaining enterprise-grade reliability. Independent sourcing enables faster access to spares through in-house, multi-vendor inventory and continued support for legacy and end-of-life platforms no longer available from manufacturers.

Vendor-agnostic sourcing also simplifies procurement across mixed-vendor networks, while reuse and refurbishment support sustainability goals by extending asset life and reducing the environmental impact associated with manufacturing new equipment.
